Ali MacLean is a writer/ DJ and designer who hails from Boston. Ali attended Miami University of Ohio where she won a scholarship to the La Jolla Playhouse Conservatory to study with Tony Award winner Des McAnuff.

While working in the Theatre costume shop, Ali’s on air personality was launched when she co-hosted the WMSR radio show JUNK ROCK which led to an on air gig as a veejay for the cable show PROGRESSIVE VISIONS. Her days as an alternative music veejay, coupled with her days at the corporate rock conglomerate MTV, led her to spoof the genre in the short film MEDIA WHORE, featuring Coolio, John Doe and Taye Diggs and earned Ali a Best Actress nomination at the 2002 Method Festival as well as a deal with SNL’s Broadway Video.

Ali went on to do ‘Allegedly Alice’ on the Comedy World radio show, THE MANVERSATION. She also was the voice (and brains) behind INDIE 103.1 FM’s GIG GUIDE WITH ALI MACLEAN. Ali writes the wildly popular Crazewire column, SETS IN THE CITY, depicting her backstage rock adventures. SETS IN THE CITY is also being adapted into a novel about the L.A. indie rock scene for Grove Atlantic.

Designing her own clothes since she was twelve, Ali’s taste is highly influenced by her weekly childhood jaunts to auctions and antique stores, as well as current weekly jaunts to music shows. After wearing her own designs to music festivals such as Coachella, SxSw and CMJ, Ali was requested to make clothes for some musician friends to wear onstage and Rock-N-Role was born.

She describes her collections as ‘Merchant Ivory meets Metallica’. Some Rock-N-Role stars include Block Party, Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, The Used, STUN, The Prix, Idlewild and a growing list of cool, sexy, characters. Recently Ali was profiled in The LA WEEKLY, NYLON, RED IS ALL THE RAGE and METROPOP magazine.
